Let Your Light Shine

"You are the light of the world...Let your light so shine." (Matthew 5:14, 16)

Have you been to any dark places recently? I woke up this morning and it was dark outside. Yesterday the news on TV showed darkness on this earth in the form of murder, war, death and rape. There are various forms of darkness we know. And there are various ways you, as a Christian, can respond to darkness.

As a component of God's plan for your life is the understanding that God has called you to be a light source. Yes, a lightbulb, flashlight, high beam headlight in a world with lots of darkness. The question is not if you should shine, but rather how and where. Everything God does for you He also does through you. God sends the light of His love, mercy, blessing, grace, and breakthrough so that not only can you see but that you can then, in turn, bring that light into other people's world as well.

There are so many ways and means of light shining that you can participate in. Where do you start? It starts inside you with a decision that you will be a light source to others. God did not call you to live unto yourself but others as well. We're not talking about an occasional word of "God bless you" to another Christian once in a while. We're speaking of you turning on the light and leaving it on.

You can be light with God's love, Word, and salvation to those you work with, those who live next door, the waiter at the restaurant, the clerk at the post office. You can be a source of inspiration to the young and the elderly. A note, a phone call, a Bible study, a prayer, or a show of concern are all means of showing light.

Today, as part of God's plan for you, you can choose to give light or keep it shut off. God wants you to shine. Whom can you mentor today? Where can you share a good word of Christ's love? Now, go shine!
