Then He turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the LORD. (Isaiah 38:2)
Hezekiah became sick and near death. Even worse the confirmation by the prophet Isaiah that "you shall die and not live" (verse 1). How would you respond when the doctor says you're going die, the man of God says you are going to die, and all the indicators are that your life is now about to cease? What did Hezekiah do? He prayed. He said,
"Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what is good in Your sight." And Hezekiah wept bitterly." (verse 3)
This prayer touched God's heart, and the prophet was told to go back to Hezekiah and tell him his life was extended another 15 years. His prayer that came before God opened the door for him to have a second chance and have years added to his life. Thus, we learn from this lesson that God does hear and respond to our prayer. God is moved by the feeling and needs of His people. Sometimes when all is about to be lost, even one;s life, remember that "the eyes of the Lord are on he righteous, and His ears are open to their prayer." (1 Peter 3:12)
Do you or a loved one need a second chance in life? Take hope. Be encouraged! Be bold! Sometimes a believer needs to come in prayer and, if need be, "weep bitterly" as Hezekiah did in prayer and position himself or herself for a breakthrough. Can God do it? He did it for Hezekiah. And what He did for one He'll do for all, because He is no respecter of men.
Perhaps you need a new start today or you know someone else who needs a breakthrough. Well, my friends, that is why prayer was created: for men and women at their lowest point in life to become desperate enough that they call out to God in prayer. This is the starting point. Your prayer can move God's heart and hand. Today, is there as area in your life that needs a radical? Then go somewhere alone...and turn your face toward the wall and pray to the Lord.
