God, Your DeSire

Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4)

Where do desires come from? The desire to dream, the desire to love and be loved. The desire for blessing and being blessed. Somewhere in the makeup of mankind there is this ability to feel and see inside of us something beyond us. It's the capacity to have a creative thought and through various means have that thought come into reality. You desire an ice cream cone, so you go buy one. Simple?

Now let's look at today's scripture. We read that it is the Lord who gives you the desires. We can look at this either of two ways. One, it's God who gives you the desire, or two, the Lord fulfills the desires of your heart. Both are correct. The title for today is God, Your DeSire. The word desire is from the Latin for de=of, and sire=father. In other words, "of the Father." So, in essence, desires come from the Father.

In light of God's plan you need to know that the way He communicated His plan to you is through desire. If you are connected to God through relationship, then He'll fill you with desire. Desire for Him and desire for His purpose. And He gives you the means of bringing that desire to pass -- called prayer and faith.

Take a few minutes today and think about your desires. Thank God for those desires and ask Him to bring them about. One word of caution here though. The more you hang with the Lord, the more you'll desire. And that's okay. That's the ways it is supposed to be. He fills you with His desires. You pray for them to be released. He works and then starts the process over again. Draw close to Him and let Him fill you again with a new dream and desire. That's His plan!
